Chicama 19

Pre Chicama.
L to R: Jefe I, Oso Pequeno, Felipe (Sitting w/ the happiest dog in the world), Jefe II, Oso Gris, Ruben, Mike, Alex (Videographer) and John.

As we walked down to the beach to get to the Zodiac, a small dog came down with us. He was so happy, running around like a wild animal, digging in the sand, and just super friendly. I took this as a sign, that the upcoming session was going to be great. Turned out, I was dead wrong. To say this was my most disappointing Chicama session ever, is an understatement. The tendonitis in my forearm was killing me to the point where it hurt just to paddle. It was also super windy, even though it was offshore. I would try to take off, but the wind would push my longboard up the face of the wave. The waves were not machine like as past years, with a few too many close outs. Yet worst of all I caught exactly ZERO waves. Super disappointing way to end my trip, but looking on the bright side, 18 days in Peru was a pretty cool vacation that not many people can do. Out in the water, Jeff H said to me “This isn’t the Chicama of my dreams” and I think that was true for everyone. However, the first timers got a taste of the magic, and the veterans got some waves.
