Puemape 2010

We returned to Puemape twice this year.  Instead of taking a taxi, we fit into Edgars and Carlos moto taxi.  Going down the main highway was like Mr. Toads wild ride.   Buses and trucks would go zooming by us, as we hugged the small shoulder, that was barely big enough to call a shoulder.   In fact, while we were on the shoulder, Edgars moto taxi fell on it’s side.   I landed on my elbow, with Dave on top of me.   Edgar said we were lucky, because if he had corrected back onto the road, a truck would have hit us, and we would be dead.   I will take an injury to my elbow anytime.

One big change from last year is that they now have a paved road going into Puemape, so we did not need to worry about getting stuck in the sand.   However, mother nature was trying to reclaim the road with the sand.   One area had a pretty high pile that forced us to push the moto taxis through the sand.  Puemape has changed alot in 2 years.   There is construction going on, there is now a road, and the Puemape Lodge is ready for visitors.   Puemape is still as beautiful as ever.   The waves were fun, with really clean lefts.  While I was out, I kept seeing Edgar and Carlos combing the beach, staring at the sand.   When I got in, they showed me some clams that they were digging for.   I joined them, and found one myself.  I cracked it open, and ate it right there.   Pretty soon Bryan, Dave, and Erwin joined me in the hunt.  Before long, we had a bunch.  We took them back to the hotel, and the cook prepared them with our ceviche.  We returned the next day, but the tide was too high.  Eventually, the tide went down, and Erwin, Bryan, and Dave went out.
