El Faro 19

Oso Gris eyeing the surf before heading out.

This year was windier than past years. We tried to go early to catch it while it was not as bad, but even at 6:00 there was a slow but steady wind. Of course the kite boarders, and wind surfers were loving it. Since there was a windsurfing contest, there were plenty of them. However, they were all really cool, and usually came out later in the day. A little more wind still did not ruin the fun. Still caught the classic El Faro with long waves that kept reforming, and the ride kept going. We had the Zodiac one day, and while it was not as big as years past, the Zodiac let me conserve my energy, and surf a little longer. El Faro still was a little crowded, but even with the crowd, there were still plenty of waves to be had. Unfortunately, there were people out who really had no place surfing the main point. One beginner we called the Leprechaun, cut Oso off twice. Once hitting him in the leg, and another time dinging his rail. He was actually a danger to others, and should have probably been surfing down the beach along the miles of unridden waves.

Pacasmayo as a town is growing. The hospital is getting near completion, our photographer Miquel, is almost ready to move into his new house, and the sand is back. The sand had disappeared along the beach after the Tsunami in Japan years ago, but this year it was back with a vengeance. Walking along the beach to town was a breeze. To me it seemed like more shops were open. Food was outstanding as usual, and there is nothing like an Ice cold Pilsen Trujillo after a surf session.
