50 minutes north of Pacasmayo is a reservoir.    This was the first year that I visited it, and it was pretty amazing.    This reservoir supplies water to Pacasmayo and other towns.   The drive up was also a nice change.   As you follow the river, the dry desert turns green along the highway with trees, rivers, and towns.  You climb upward towards the towering mountains, when the lake suddenly comes into view.   I was blown away at how big it was, even though you could tell the water level was not at it’s peak.   Once we got there, Tom went fishing with Juan.   We were happy to have the  local knowledge of Juan, who took us to a hidden cove where the fish were biting.

As we were fishing, Juan suddenly spotted a Scorpion.   Being in sandals, it freaked me out, but Juan had no fear.   He picked it up, had me take some pictures, then stuck it in his pocket.    When we got back to the shore, the scorpion was suddenly on his shoulder.   It had hitched a ride across the lake.

Juan the wild man, with a scorpion on his face.
